The Final Rose that Never Came
The Final Rose that Never Came
Once upon a time there was an unlucky lady looking for love named Hannah G. Her whole life she was looking for the right prince charming but just couldn't catch a break. She tried and tried and tried to find love but unfortunately every prince she kissed turned out to just be a frog in disguise. She was just starting to think she would spend the rest of her days eating low-fat ice cream and watching tv with her cats, when suddenly she saw a commercial advertisement promoting The Bachelor. She was a little wary at first and so was everyone else she talked to but she thought, "Well what more could I possibly lose?"
She decided to risk it all to go on the world renowned competition dating show. She spent thousands and thousands of dollars on dresses, personal trainers, and makeup. Finally, the very first night of her journey to happily ever after had come. Hannah G. was a nervous as could be. As soon as she stepped out of the limo and onto the oddly glistening sidewalk Hannah G. knew she made the right decision. The moment she saw Colton, the bachelor, she felt like her luck had finally changed. She was going to find love at the end of this journey and it was going to be with Colton.
There was so much activity in the mansion the first night, Hannah G. was feeling a bit overwhelmed. However, she kept her head screwed on and didn't drink too much Rose (something a few of the other contestants should have done). As soon as Hannah G. had a chance to "Steal Colton away for just a second," she did. Immediately the sparks were flying between the two. Colton even felt so sure about his initial attraction to Hannah G. that he gave her the very first rose of the journey.
In The Bachelor Nation contestants are given a rose to ask him or her to stay on the show.
We can not forget the premises of the Bachelor. Hannah G. is deep in competition with many other love struck ladies. However, Hannah G. rose to the occasion and seemed to be the true beholder of Colton's heart. They got closer and closer to one another and Hannah G. could easily picture a life with her lovely Colton.
Hannah G's luck was finally finally turning around. She was going to get the love she deserves and the love she fought for. As the final weeks of the competition swiftly snuck up on the two, Hannah G. was getting giddy with excitement. She started planning what could possibly be the rest of their lives together. Everything was perfect.
Until Hannah G's luck seemed to run out. Colton broke her heart and ruined what could possibly be Hannah G's last chance at love with just one sentence, "I am in love with someone else." And that was it. Just that sentence, said so quickly, took away a life time of long conversations Hannah G. imagined.
And thus concludes the love story of Hannah G, the one cursed with bad luck in love.
Author's Note:
The Bachelor has been a hot topic of conversation for the past few weeks so I thought it would be fun to frame a story around the hit TV series. I read this story that was about a women who bet it all on love and it did not pay off and couldn't help but think of The Bachelor finale. The original story that I read was about a princess who believed a beggar was lucky. She was exiled from her castle but remained faithful to her husband. Finally her beggar husband became an emperor but she died only a few days after. I thought this story line would co perfectly with this season/finale of The Bachelor. I actually haven't watched this season of The Bachelor which made it an interesting way to write the story. I thought it would be a fun experiment to write this story I am basing off of a story line I haven't seen. I only used the info I have heard from my roommate or other conversations I have been around.

Hi Maryellen,
ReplyDeleteI loved reading your story about Hannah G. For someone who has not watched the bachelor you were spot on with the details. I thought it was very cleaver of you to write your story based off the bachelor because it appeals to a lot of readers. Overall, I thought you did a great job writing a fun and entertaining story.
Hey Maryellen!
ReplyDeleteFirst off I really like how you not only took an older tale and updated the context, but that you also put it in the context of a really socially relevant element of our pop culture! This is the first time in this course that I've seen somebody do that!
Also, I appreciate how you didn't give this love story a happy ending. While there's absolutely a place for fairy tales, I think some realism can be healthy too!
Best,

Hey again,
ReplyDeleteSweet story here. Made me laugh once I caught on to what you were talking about. This is a great example of adapting a folklore story to such a clearly modern direction. I thought your attention to details was great, including the "G." in Hannah's last name. It is just like the show! Not that I have watched it... too many times.
Hi Maryellen,
ReplyDeleteI love that you included this story! I am an avid watcher of the Bachelor. The way you incorporated this with the story you read was brilliant. It is crazy how blinding love can be. A way to make it more interesting would to include some more dialogue and how Hannah G. felt when all of this happened. It seemed kinda broad. Can't wait to read more.
