Article Feedback Thoughts

Image
Feedback Thoughts I enjoyed the article, " Seven Ways to Crush Self-Doubt in Creative Work ". Now I believe some of the advice on the list is obvious but sometimes you need to read the obvious to clearly understand why it is useful. I did like the advice, "Treat your work like an experiment." When an idea or project doesn't work it doesn't mean its a failure, it means that you need to figure out what is wrong and fix it.  The other article I chose to write about is, " Make Good Art ". I especially enjoyed the section that talked about making mistakes. If you aren't making mistakes you aren't then you aren't trying new things. We learn the most from our mistakes, not our successes.  Neil Gaiman  with his speech "Make Good Art" Website Link

Week 2 Story: Three Roses

Image
Three Roses There once was a caring mother with three daughters. The family was running low on supplies so the mother planned a trip to the market. Before she left the mother asked her daughters what they wanted from the market. The two eldest girls supplied a long list of wants. The youngest, however, just wanted three Roses. The family lived deep in the woods so the trip would take two days time. After collecting all the supplies that were needed the mother started to head back home. With such a heavy load, the mother needed a rest. It was getting dark and she could hear the animals coming out to search for food under the moon. She saw an old looking palace and decided to hurry there for refuge for the night. The mother had never seen this palace but it seemed extremely old. The only thing that was in good condition was the rose garden to the side of the palace. She had already bought her daughter the three roses but these were so much more beautiful. As soon as she picked

Growth Mindset

Image
Learning From Other Students After watching the videos and looking at possible Growth Mindset Challenges, I am most looking forward to learning from other students. I think our peers are one of the greatest tools in our learning toolbox. I think in this type of class we can get inspired by other students and think of things in a way we typically wouldn't. So this semester I am setting the goal to learn from my peers in and out of this class.  From John Spencer

Time Strategies

Image
Time Management I am a very busy person. I work many jobs and am enrolled in a lot of hours. I have found the best way for me to keep up with everything is to have many calendars and keep a to-do list. I basically have a calendar in each room plus keep one on my phone to make sure I have full access to my calendar at all times.  I looked at the Article, " The Psychology of Checklists " by Lauren Marchese. It made some good points on the satisfaction of crossing off tasks. I can agree that this is honestly the best feeling. From   The Psychology of Checklists I also looked at the article, " 4 Questions to Help You Overcome Procrastination"  by Peter Banerjea. I found this helpful. I think I am going to write those questions down and put them up to where I can see them.

Technology

Image
Technology Forward Online Class I have taken a few online classes before, but this class seems to be more technology forward than others. It helps that this class isn't locked per week so that tool can really help with time management. There are so many different tools to help move forward in this class. A tool like having a twitter feed helps to keep on top of everything that needs to be done with this class.  From Max Pixel

Assignments

Freedom in Assignments Something that I am looking forward to is the freedom we have in our assignments. This course is well structured but still gives us students a lot of creative freedom. Especially with projects like the storybook. I am excited to explore this freedom in this direction.  From Max Pixel

Introduction to Why You Want to Go Into Advertising

Image
Why Advertising is Amazing Hi! I'm Maryellen! I grew up in Houston, Texas and am now a senior that is studying Advertising. I decided to study Advertising on a whim and didn't give much thought to it, I guess back then I just knew without really knowing.  Advertising is taught in  Gaylord Hall Going into Advertising has been one of the best decisions of my life. I get to interact with people all day while working toward a common goal. The great thing about Advertising is that it is usually held in such a fun environment. I am an Operations Director for Lindsey + Asp, the student-run agency on campus, and I couldn't think of a better environment to work in. People are creative, and a little weird and we get to come up with the grandest ideas that we actually implement in national campaigns.  Typically some of the qualities you find in someone in advertising can be seen as a weakness in other areas of work. A lot of us are ADHD, we talk too much and we

Storybook Favorites

Image
3 Favorite Story Books 1. The Horses of Hogwarts Home page of Horses of Hogwarts Story Book This storybook was one of my favorites because it continued on with the story of Harry Potter. I am a big fan of Harry Potter like most of Americas, so I was happy to see a continuation of it. The writer does it in a good way as well. The introduction lets the reader know what to expect and gets them to want to read more. I liked the design of the story book as well. It kept Harry Potter's vibe but added a more mysterious tone in some cases. Over all this was a really well done story book.  2. Aladdin's Adventures Home Page of  Aladdin's Adventures   The next story book I chose was Aladdin's Adventures. This story was a very creative take on my favorite movie of all time. I liked the reverse story of Aladdin as a prince and the creativity of adding a second genie. I believe the actual writing was a little wordy at some points, for example, the int

Favorite Place

Image
Stockholm, Sweden My favorite place in the world is Stockholm, Sweden. I went there on a last minute trip while I was studying abroad last semester. I officially went to go to Avicci's wake (who earlier that month committed suicide) but I found so much more in Stockholm.  Stockholm's main road Photo by:  Phil Price The city itself was beautiful. There was virtually no litter on the ground and the architecture was stunning. There were parts that were extremely modern but you could walk over to the next street and see traditional old Sweden. The bridge connecting the old and the new.  Max Pixel The people as well were absolutely beautiful, inside and outside. Everyone was so nice and helpful to me and my friend. We were two girls travelling alone which prompted many women to make sure we took the most well-lit paths and even sometimes walk with us.  Overall I had a fantastic time. I found pleasure in shopping (a lot of shopping I might add),
