Reading Notes, English Tales B

Henny-Penny Henny got hit on the head and thought the sky was falling Cocky-locky saw henny-penny on the way and asked to join Ducky-daddles joined on the way too Goosey-poosey joined then Turkey-lurkey Foxy-woxy told them they were going the wrong way and that he would show them F took them back to his hole F tricked them and started to eath them killed all of them but Henny-p got away but she never told the kind the sky was falling Johnny-Cake Old mand and old woman and a little boy the little boy was baking the cake while his parents worked The cake came alive (the gingerbread??) The cake out ran the family  and then the well-diggers then a bear then a wolf Said he could out run the fox but he tricked him The family chasing Johnny-Cake. The Story of the 3 Little Pigs when pigs spoke rhyme, monkeys chewed tobacco, hens took snuff to make them tough and ducks when quack quack quack, O! Nukungusik, who Escaped from the Tupilak many brothers no wife middle brother trying to kill him --killed him helped them search for the body Nuk lived very long and died last of the brothers The Giant Dog man with a very big dog  could swim in the sea and could haul whale and narwhal to shore drilled holes in teeth and put a harness in it so he could ride the dog the guy never had son so gave the dog this amulet (knot of hard wood)  this helped the dog not die the dog ate a man so the owner had to go live somewhere else with his dog Someone came on the island so the man tried to make sure the dog didn't know  the dog smelt the new man and his owner hid the new comer dog would go kill inlanders and then bring the legs back to his owner  this is why the inlanders are scared of all dogs The Giant Dog Web Source Story source:  Eskimo Folk-Tales  by Knud Rasmussen with illustrations by native Eskimo artists (1921).

The Cloud That Was Lost high mountains clouds sleep on the top of peaks  trying to grow heavy enough to send down rain explains fog cloud got lost over flat land cloud started crying stretched itself out and gave flowers below color how the flower Wild Pholx got its soft colors that look like evening clouds Grandmother River's Trick scared of other fish in the river Basically bully of the river ate and ate but were never hungy oh grandmother was river  she didn't like the bully fish  The river asked the cloud to create a flood Tricked the garfish to swim out of the river banks and explore where her water now touched was able to run and leave the gar fish in the little pools newly created The plant that grows in trees mistletoe  only birds can reach the little white berries that only appear in both in summer and winter bird put it there once because it had pity on the mistletoe Thunderbird thanked the mistletoe for its berries...

Fairy Tales: Beuty and the Basilisk  Three Roses Story Source: The Key of Gold by Josef Baudis (1922) First two daughters want everything The third daughter wants nothing besides three roses Doesn't specially ask-- says if you like, you can bring me the roses Mom wanders into the castle -- exhausted from carrying all of the stuff for other sisters Palace has beautiful roses outside -- mistakenly picks them Daughter wants nothing which costs her her life -- but didn’t care? Basilisk wanted her to give him life and kill him 3 roses- 3 hours of nursing a day - 3 days Hesitated to kill the beast but easily killed the serpent inside She ends up Marrying the attractive male and having a big wedding The Three Roses are a focal point in the story.  Taken from Poem Hunter
